Light Of The World
Jesus said "I am the Light of the world" (John 8:12, John 9:5). But He also said "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14). So I can actually say like Jesus Christ "I am the light of the world". Children of God are the lights of the world.
But what does it mean to be a light? Well, as the light of the world one is a light like the two great lights made on the fourth day of creation:
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: (Genesis 1:14)
As lights they were to be for signs and seasons. So also are we as children of God who are lights of the world:
Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion. (Isaiah 8:18)
We are for signs and wonders. Everything we do is a sign and a wonder. For instance, if the light of the world is feeling under the weather, it is a sign that the people of God are straying from God's commands. The physical sickness is a sign for the spiritual sickness. Also, as another example, if the light of the world is jobless and unemployed, it is a sign that the just shall live by faith. Whatever happens to the light of the world is an indicator of something that is illuminating a spiritual occurrence. That is, whatever they do or whatever happens to them sheds light on an invisible spiritual truth. They (lights of the world), are like walking and talking lights shedding light on spiritual matters with what they do, with what is happening to them and even what they say.
