An Interesting Experiment
An experiment about Conformity was carried out in the reception of an organization. At the sound of a buzzer, everyone stood up for no reason at all in a bid to see if the test subject would also stand up. Eventually, the test subject started standing up for no reason at the sound of the buzzer simply because everyone else was doing so. Even when the group of people initially standing up for no reason had gone, the test subject kept standing up for no reason at the sound of the buzzer. This continued until a fresh group of people came into the reception and also kept standing up at the sound of the buzzer for no other reason than that they saw everyone else doing so.
Such is the situation sometimes in life, where we do some things simply because everybody else is doing so. However, the Bible says in Romans 12:2:
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
We aren't supposed to conform to this world's way of doing things. Rather we are to be transformed into the very person God wants us to be by renewing our minds with the Word of God - the Bible. That is, we should always consider "what does the Bible say or reveal about this?" We are to go with what and how the Bible says a thing should be in our everyday lives and living. For instance, everybody might be worrying about the future - what to eat, where to live, how to make money, etc. But the Word of God teaches us not to worry about tomorrow and to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Then every other thing we may have occasion to worry about will be sorted out quite automatically (Matthew 6:25-33).
By not conforming and being transformed by the renewing of our minds, we will be able to determine and know what God's good, acceptable and perfect will is. That is, being and doing exactly what God wants us to be and do. And it will be good; acceptable to both you and God; and perfect in the sense of getting it right one hundred percent leaving no room for error or misguidance by conforming variables/elements.
